On a special note the Emile Awards Association pays tribute to leading figures of European animated cinema by awarding the Lotte Reiniger Lifetime Achievement Award. Lotte Reiniger was a film director and the foremost pioneer of silhouette animation.
Lotte Reiniger Lifetime Achievement awards is awarded to an individual in recognition of their outstanding lifetime contribution to the art of Animation.
Priit Pärn, born 26 August 1946 in Tallinn, is an Estonian cartoonist and animation director whose films have enjoyed success among critics as well as the public at various film festivals. Scriptwriter, director and artist Priit Pärn graduated from Tapa Secondary school in 1965 and Tartu University biology department in 1970. During 1969-1970 he worked as a senior engineer in Tartu Institute of Zoology and Botany, after that in 1970-1976 as a plat ecologist in Tallinn Botanical Gardens. His career in animation began when he accepted Rein Raamat’s proposal to make a design for an animated short Kilplased (1974). At the same time he was a co-writer with Heino Pars on a short stopmotion film „A Fairitale about His Majesty“. After a brief apprenticeship in Joonisfilm, he directed his first film Is the Earth Round? in 1977.
