The Emile Awards Committee is pleased to present the 2025 Lotte Reiniger Award to Vera Neubauer.

Congratulations, Mrs Vera Neubauer!

On a special note the Emile Awards Association pays tribute to leading figures of European animated cinema by awarding the Lotte Reiniger Lifetime Achievement Award. Lotte Reiniger was a film director and the foremost pioneer of silhouette animation.

This year’s Lotte Reiniger award goes to an animator, experimental filmmaker, feminist activist, and educator.s is awarded to an individual in recognition of their outstanding   lifetime contribution to the art of Animation.

Born in the former Czechoslovakia, our winner of the 2025 Lotte Reiniger Award is an important figure in the history of animation and has been linked to the second wave of British animation.

Her experiences of life as a refugee have influenced her films, as do her personal feelings about birth, death, and abuse, as well as the topics of femininity, myth, and existence.

She has no fear of being proactive and anti-establishment.

Over five decades as an animator, her creative work spans genres from short films to television series for children. She has taught art and filmmaking at Central Saint Martins School of Art at the Royal College of Art, and as well, at Goldsmiths University.

She gives workshops around the world, has received two BAFTAS and garnered many major awards at  International Animation Festivals, as well as having numerous retrospectives of her work.
